Facebook unveils novel News Feed

After a gap of around three years, Facebook has finally introduced a major change in its news feed which is visually rich and offers more options to a user regarding filtration of different categories such as Close Friends, Games, Photos and Music. As a result of news feed redesign a few functions of the website have changed.

Privacy Settings

The Placement of privacy settings is one of those changes that appear on Facebook as a result of this overhaul. The new privacy settings now can be found, in the form of a lock icon, on the top-right corner of the page just besides your name. All the features, however, are same as you were using before.

It is pertinent to mention here that according to a study, confusion and repeated changes in Facebook privacy settings during past few years has led the users to share more information publically that they earlier did not want to do. For instance, in 2005 around 70% Facebook users preferred not to share their date of birth, instant messenger information, hometown and high school name, however, as Facebook introduced the new privacy settings in 2009, a major surge in users’ publically shared information was observed.

Sponsored Posts

Now Facebook users will be able to view sponsored posts in a relatively bigger and richer size, according to a Facebook representative who confirmed this change in an Email to Mashable website.
Another noticeable change is the increase in news feed size due to which more real estate stuff can be accommodated in Facebook in-stream advertisements. The increase in the size of news feed was made possible after the shrinkage of right and left rails that surround the feed.

In addition to more real estate ads in news stream, now marketers will also be able to advertise their products and services through Pictorial and Video advertisements.
